Those darn quizes. Or . . . it could be a possible operator's error in posting said quiz but I'm not admitting to anything.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I went back home to Virginia to visit the family. Our Thanksgiving tradition is a huge affair. About 50 or so people and usually a couple of stragglers, friends of family, etc. I met family that I didn't know existed (a drifter named Sammy who hitch-hikes across the US and Jordan, who is a new addition to the George and Anna Lee branch), looked at pictures of Wedding and Births that I had missed over the past year (3 weddings, 2 births), and watched my mom learn how to do Tequila shots (I lost count after 5). Then we stayed up till about 1:30 am playing Tabu. My Cousin Tammy can whip some tail playing Tabu.
The next day was filled with shopping, visiting, and collapsing on the couch watching a movie with my incredibly cute nephew Nolan.

It was really nice to see everyone even if meant schelping my stuff everywhere. I got the phone call last nigth that I had left several articles of clothing at my Mom's house. Oh well! I will just pick them up in a couple of weeks and then leave something else.

Hope everyone had a nice holiday!

Trish

Why won't my blogger post?

Why can't a church be a church?

What will a girl do if she must/forced to quit her job because she does not portray the proper leadership qualities and be forced to pound the pavement again? Still a dial up, but hey baby steps man baby steps!)
I will try various places (Filenes Basement, Marshalls etc.) before surrendering to Gap and the like. But I will use this shirt for future caterings this Winter. I haven't really been shopping downtown by myself in about two years. Whwn I first moved here I went at least 2 places a week to learn my way around. It used to a game I would play with myself. I have never lived in place where public transportation was the main source of mobility. So I would pick a location that I had never been then try and figure out how to get there by public. It was fun for the first year or two and thats how I learned my way around the city. Now I work all during the week and my time is limited but I still get a kick out of using public transportation. I feel like I'm doing something sneaky, like getting away with going somewhere I shouldn't or using a fake I.D. to get into a bar or something. (I know I'm weird)

So, let the shopping begin. I may not be able to blog. I may not be able to converse. I may turn off my phone for two whole days and dare people to try and get in touch with me.

Just kidding. But I will not be at worky work so if you must call don't call there unless you want to talk to Sampa or Pastor Doug & Carol. (You might want to do that. They are very nice people.)

Tonight I will attending Mozart's Requiem to commemorate Sept 11th. It is very strange to think that one year ago I was getting ready for work and the Terrorists Struck America. I was talking to a friend of mine who just recently moved here from New York and she was saying that she can't even put into words what she experienced that day. It was like the end of the world. And the Silence. The Silence in New York City. The City that literally doesn't stop was still. She said it was like a sigh of relief when she finally heard a cabbie yell obcenities from their window two weeks later. That was when she knew things were going to be okay and that life could go on. A sense of Normalcy she said. She said after that moment someone pressed resume and New York was "New York" again but it was now tainted for her. So she got out.

I will see her tonight at the concert. And I will tell her I'm glad she is here. And hopefully we will sit together, listen to the beautiful music and remember together.

Peace!

more to come in a bit

Which Shoe Are You?

Crazy Crosstrainer
The snap of a twig, the swish of tall grass, the crunch of loose gravel during a pickup game of b-ball. Those are the calls of the wild that lure you from your easy chair and make you most like a Crazy Crosstrainer. Whether gearing up for an urban walk, a trail run, or a hike with the dog you wish you had, getting out of the house is at the top of your list. You know what you like and go for it 'til you get it right (which could partly explain your eccentric obsessions—whether outdoor gear, travel books, or photography equipment). And on those rare occasions when things don't go your way the first time 'round, your competitive edge drives you to work harder and raise the bar for your own benefit. People envy your natural know-how and get-up-and-go—probably because your appreciation of crisp skylines at sunset or the constellations on a clear night helps you levitate over the daily challenges that drive most people mad.

Who knew?

I'm Going on Vacation, Sorta

But first I have a few thing to do at the apartment before packing up with Tripp for a few day and then heading up to the Twin Cities
Here is a few "To Do" before Sunday
1. So there you go. No little devilish eyes watching you comment but at least you can if you so choose.

Well Shrew is officially over. In a way I am glad (no more driving hours to get there) and in a way I'm kinda sad. I really liked the people I was working with and I enjoyed doing the show. Our cast party was a blast. Catered by Magdalenas there in "Downtown Elgin". It was really very nice and a great way to put it to rest with good Italian (free) food and good company. Yay Shakespeare!!!

To kick off my first official weekend post ShrewI decided to use my long overdue gift certificate to Tou Jours a fabulous salon on North Clark at Foster. My gift certificate was for a pedicure/manicure (and after a month with bareish feet on concrete my dogs were in bad shape). So I scheduled my appointment and promptly at Noon on Saturday went to sit and relax and have Danielle rub and caress my feet back into beautifulness. However, things don't alway go as planned. . .
Danielle, my beloved Danielle, no longer works there. Danielle, can transform my little bitten nubs into works of art. Danielle, has magic in her fingers and potions all around was not there. Instead, I got Tanya. Now Tanya is a wonderful lady don't get me wrong, but she is no Danielle. Danielle who takes her time and chats and talks shit to you and wants to know how you are doing. Tanya is silent and works fast. But to Tanya's credit there was also a bridal party going on that day so the place was a zoo.
So after no Danielle, I resigned myself to Tanya and picked out my color; 1 for toes (an awesome "Russian to a party" and something light for the digits since I am a bitter. Well, apparently Tanya did not have me down for a pedicure and a manicure and was very upset that she was going to have to squeeze my appointment in somehow. So poor overworked for the day Tanya then had to proceed and take take care of my nasty, callused feet and keep going on and on about how I should be careful. The Lady to my left was in the Bridal party and was getting French Toes. Tanya was very economical with her time as I said before. And was finished with buff, lotion, and polish before Alla (The pedicureist next to me who was woking on said member of Bridal party and who I will be visiting next time) even opened her polish. "Wait Twenty minutes and be careful" Tanya announced after she finished my beautifully polished "russian to a party toes" So I hobbled over to her manicure table and was about to enjoy a relaxing manicure when Tanya takes one look at my (and I admit ) pitful nails and says I cannot file in her thick Russian Accent. Danielle could always file. Danielle found a way to always file. Danielle always reassured me about me OCD nail biting and offerd suggestions and comfort. Danielle was my nail pastor. But instead I got a cold "I cannot file". So she wahed them, cut the cutiles and painted them. When she was done she again instructed me to "Wait twenty minutes and be careful"

From Bad to Worse
So I again Hobble. To the Front. Of the Salon. And sit. And watch the bridal party. I sit and watch others get groomed and coifed and sprayed and gelled. I sit for a good thirty minutes and then turned in my wonderful gift certificate given to me by wonderful friends and proceeded o walk back home when disaster strikes.

I get not even halfway down the block and look down to admire my beautiful party toes when yo my horror ALL THE POLISH WAS SMEARED ON EVERY SINGLE PIGGIE. PIGGIE GONE TO MARKET ON DOWN TO WEE WEE ALL THE WAY HOME.

I could have just cried. I had waited months for this treat. A treat that will not happen again for a very long time. This was supposed to start my post show relaxation and bounce me into a new unknown direction. But no instead I had tense shoulders, a ripped off feeling in my stomach, ugly, smeared toes and fingers and a defeated slump in my step as I watched them get worse and worse. As soon as I got home I proceeded to remove (what was left) of "Russian to a Party" from one piggie to the next and sigh.

Comments

Well I can see now that I will looking for a new commenting host. I am a blog Slacker

But I have been busy! I swear!

Well, this weekend is your last weekend to see Taming of the Shrew. Click the Taming of the Shrew hyper link to the left here and read a bit about what the burbs and Chicago proper have thought about our show.

Brief catch-up
Had dinner with my dear friend Emily, who has recently moved to Chicago, and caught up with our lives and new beginnings. Consequently Todd Guill joined us. (haven't seen him in who knows when) and also Susan Malone Sotnick. Now Susan, Emily and Todd also went on a tour together with the National Players out of the Olney Theater So we had a bit of tour catch-up as well. It was really great to see them again and must be better about keeping up. Especially now since EMILY IS HERE!!!!! Okay, now to make things even more freaky. The very next night at the show Keith Butler was in the audience. Keith worked with Susan on the Spirit of Norfolk before they both moved here and stayed with us while he found a place. (Suans and I were roomates in Chicago after tour) Keith just completed a movie and has worked with Chad Kodiak who is in Shrew with me. Whew! The world is way too small but the 6 degrees thing is very cool. I love it when relationships swirl around like that. It was a week of reunions reminiscing.

Saturday night my friends Jon, Melissa and Bill came to the show. Jon is taking the show Stupid Kids to the Columbus Fringe Festival and shared a mysterious article written in the Windy City Times.
There will be an orgy in Columbus, Ohio Sept. 12-21: the first National Gay & Lesbian Theatre Festival, presenting over two dozen troupes and solo artists from major cities across the country. The folks in Columbus have announced that Chicago's Theatre Entropy will perform Stupid Kids by John C. Russell, Sept. 15-17. Only trouble is, no one in Chicago ever heard of Theatre Entropy. Not Jonny's fellow WCT writers Mary Shen Barnidge and Rick Reed, not gay producers Erik Rosen (About Face) or David Zak (Bailiwick). So Jonny called Frank Barnhart, the Big Kahuna in Columbus, who said Theatre Entropy was formed specifically for the Festival by actor Jon Arndt, a Columbusite who moved here in 1999. He has performed in the Pride Series, and at Stage Left, TriArts (sic) and Chicago Dramatists. Arndt told Jonny there are no plans to incorporate Theatre Entropy or to perform Stupid Kids in Chicago, although neither possibility has been ruled out. Arndt hopes to take the show to other fringe festivals such as those in Ann Arbor, Seattle and Winnipeg. Stupid Kids was a great success in 1998 when staged by Roadworks Productions. The script includes gay, lesbian and straight adolescent characters. The work is the slim legacy of John C. Russell, who wrote it as a student at Brown University, but died of AIDS before it was produced. It's been a success in Chicago, New York and other cities.

So go to the Festival. It is the only Chicago entry in the Festival. Go Now! Or at least go to their fundraiser Wednesday, September 4th from 5pm-9pm at 4Moon Tavern, 1847 W Roscoe. Stop by on your way home from a grueling day of work, listen to Music by oh my god, and much more.

This Just IN

Tripp Hudgins is managing a kitchen. Tripp Hudgins is in Charge. Everyone say "GO Tripp"

Ok. I think that is all for now. now that I just threw up all over my blog. Yay!! No matter how many shows, now matter how prepared, now matter who is in the audience, I still get that sick, bottomless, pit feeling in my stomach mixed with that incredible urge to go the bathroom right before the lights go up. But it's done and we can all relax and have fun with it. Somehow now it has kinda turned into this highly technical raw show. and the whole traveling gypsy players theme (we are doing the induction at the very top of the show to embrace the play within a play, within a play) has sorta been dropped to the wayside or more accurately it is very subtle . But it is still alot of fun and I think most of you would have a good time. ( It is a comedy for Christ Sake!) Having said that come see it. We need butts in the seats. Wednesday - Saturday nights at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 6:30 pm. Wing Park Bandshell, 1000 Wing Street, Elgin. There is a Metra Train stop about 1/2 mile from Wing Park if you don't have a car.

Okay enough shameless promoting

On the homefront:
Not much to say really. I am soooo looking forward to not setting an alarm on Sat & Sun and just waking up when the urgency hits and then maybe not even then. Oh maybe I'll make tea and lay in bed for most of the morning and finsh my Elizabeth biography. Hmmm the options!

Okay, I wanted to open up a discussion about cheating. I heard this piece on NPR yesterday about GRE tests in Asia and the increasingly high percentages of cheating. Paper Tests, as apposed to computer generated tests, are to be put back in motion and test questions changed for each test because of this. (Serves them right sorta for using the same questions) Computer generated questions apparently recycle old test questions. What raised my brow was that 1 day after testing, test questions were available on the web for testing students to study and memorize. And the longer these testing sites recycled these same questions the higher test scores. (Is the pressure of academia that stressful)
So my question is sorta layered.
What are your thoughts about cheating? If you had access to your specific GRE tests would you use it? Do you you think there is a connection between this and college exams kept on file in libraries for student use. I have mixed feelings but wanted to hear other thoughts and rants.

Peace

Go to this Web. They have such a nice place. One day I too will be able to live permanently in a place like theirs. With great water pressure and hot water that doesn't require vice-grips and space and a big bed that you have to have a running start to get into. And on top of that . . .they have an awesome facility to do laundry. Multiple loads of laundry. The washing machine must be brand newish because you can open the top and the water still keeps going so that you can wosh things around and rinse out the top of your detergent lid. And it's FAST!! Freedomland Laundry(all three loads) . . . Done! (well the last two loads in the dryer. First load folded in the basket) Did I mention that I love this place? Perhaps they would be willing to donate their place for wardrobe maintenance in the future. Hmmm.

Other News
I Rode My Bike To Work!!! How you like me now? Except I forgot my glasses. That was interesting. Well, that was Sunday! And Talisman Theatre does not stop for rain. Thunder, Lightening, the works. Actually it was really cool and you absolutely had to listen which made it a bit more challenging because you couldn't hear over the rain and you could hang out back stage which was uncovered. So everyone had to be supersonically quiet. Mind you with 10 or so interns and 10 or so principles all under the same bandshell behind the set not so easy. But we did it and was out before midnight. Pretty cool.

So if you plan on coming to see the show and it looks like rain, bring an umbrella, wear a slicker and a good sense of humor because you will be sitting close. Iincredibly close. I would even goes so far as to say on the stage close. Where elements of film acting will ensue. No really! But kidding and jesting aside it will be alot of fun and hey that's outdoor theatre Baby!

In other News:
Just received word from Mr. Tripp Hudgins and yes he is indeed. . . Southern! Accent in full swing now. Holy Cow! I almost didn't know who was on the other end. But he is well and having a good time hangind out with everyone. He is definitely missed

I am off to rehearsal.
